Best Predictor of Party Affililation?

Best Predictor of Party Affililation?

March 21, 2014 by Darin Gibby

This morning I read an article on the front page of the Wall Street Journal indicating that where people live is a good indicator of their party affiliation.  The article showed a graph that rural people tend to be Republication while urbanites are Democrats.  While that may be true, I think there may be a better predictor of your politicial party.

It is based on how much wine you drink.

Really?

If you don’t think so, check out this article from the Business Insider which reveals which states drink the most wine.  It is strinkingly similar to which states tend to vote red or blue.  Maybe statisticians should start calling election results based on wine sales. What would be interesting is to also see how the consumption of other beverages play into all this.  For example, would a map of beer sales in the US reveal anything about your party?  What about energy drinks?  I’m not sure, but it seems like wine consumption can’t be ignored.
