Hotel Del Coronado

December 2, 2025 by Darin Gibby

All the lights are up at the Hotel Del Coronado.  We went there over the break to check things out.  We wanted to go skating, but it was $45 each, which was a little steep for a few laps around the ice.  Still, we had a great time.  Just fun to get out and see…

Culinary Highlights from Kuala Lumpur, Bali and Syndey

November 26, 2025 by Darin Gibby

I just returned from a trip to Malaysia, Bali and Sydney, Australia. Most of it was work related, but I did manage to do a little surfing in Bali and swim in Icebergs near Bondi beach (since there were no waves and we couldn’t surf). But the highlight of the trip was the food, especially…

Visit to Capri and Paestum

October 19, 2025 by Darin Gibby

Robin and I had a fantastic trip to Capri. We’ve been there a few times but never stayed overnight.  We stayed at the Tibero Palace which was a great hotel. We also learned that there’s a lot more to the island than shopping.  There are some great trails that go to the Blue Grotto. Here…

Fall Colors in Vail

September 24, 2025 by Darin Gibby

We made a quick trip to our place in Vail to check out the fall colors, do a bit a hiking, and some fly fishing.  We also drove to Independence Pass to check out the colors in Aspen.  The colors were perfect this year.  I’ve pasted a few photos as well as one from a…

Scripps Pier La Jolla

September 9, 2025 by Darin Gibby

Every day we take a walk from our house to the Scripps Pier.  I have taken dozens of photos of the pier, but this one is quite unique.  Check out the lifeguard at the end of the pier.  We’ve tried getting some with surfers but haven’t gotten that one yet. The same day we found…

Guide to Hiking Arrowhead Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park

August 8, 2025 by Darin Gibby

Because so many people have emailed me about my previous post, I decided to provide additional information on how to hike into Arrowhead Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.  This is definitely the crown jewel of the park. I’ve also added a bit with some fishing tips. The best way to get to arrowhead Lake…

We’re Finally Back in La Jolla!

July 20, 2025 by Darin Gibby

After our five year ordeal- three years getting permits and two years to construct, we’re finally back in our beach home.  I love the view from my office on the new third story.  Looking forward to writing more books with views like these.

Best Man Toast

May 29, 2025 by Darin Gibby

My son, Talmage, was recently married. When Tal was little, he loved watching Japanese Anime. His older brother, Nate, decided to put together a video of Tal meeting and proposing to Megan all in anime.  It’s very clever and based on original photographs.   Here is a link to view:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J2Qj2znecuvMhL01CHErl-tc_oysslP2/view?usp=sharing

La Jolla Half Marathon and 5k

May 25, 2025 by Darin Gibby

Last week I ran this La Jolla race with some colleagues from Japan.  It was great. The race went right past my house in La Jolla shores.  It was nice to be able to walk down the hill to my house after the race. What was even better is that a nice swell was just…

Back in La Jolla

July 10, 2023 by Darin Gibby

We finally made it to La Jolla for our summer stint.  They replaced the traditional fireworks show with some drones. Cool, but a little underwhelming. Looking forward to a little down time on the beach and a lot of surfing. I’m also hoping to polish off my next book.  More to come …
